Michel, my Favorite Neighborhood Restaurant

On Calle 69A in the Zona G, and half a block from my house, is a little French bistro called Michel. It’s become a hangout for me and a few friends almost every Saturday and Sunday morning, and maybe one or two nights during the week as well.
This restaurant has everything to make it a really regular place. It’s charming, the food is always excellent, has a great menu, the staff are incredibly friendly and accomodating, and the prices are better than reasonable. Last week when I was there with three friends and I put the tab on my US credit card, when I got the bill it had converted to under $30 USD. I’ve heard that there is at least one other Michel in the city, but haven’t been there.
Michel, the owner or Michel, comes around lots of times on Saturday or Sunday mornings to eat and chat. The patio’s the preffered place to hang out, though inside has a nice ambience too. There are a few display cases just inside the door loaded with pastries and desserts, so it’s dangerous to go inside for that reason.
It’s hard to say what’s best on the menu, because I’ve never had anything that I didn’t think was great. There are some pretty creative egg dishes at breakfast, though French toast is hard to resist for me. Juices are great; cappuccino is required, if you ask me. I know that’s Italian, but they do it better here than just about anywhere else.
At night, the tomato soup is incredible, and I say this because I am not a fan of tomato soup, but here I can’t resist it. Sandwiches are creative and the ingredients are always top quality.
This place is definitely worth a trip from wherever in the city you are. You will feel like you’re in a Parisian cafe (and you are!).
